The year-long graduate nurse residency fosters a tiered approach to newly graduated nurses transitioning to practice. A new nurse can expect an individualized orientation that includes dedicated preceptors, specialty classes and training with a structured curriculum.

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, this position provides optimal patient care utilizing knowledge and skills within the context of the nursing process. The incumbent is accountable for patient outcomes over an entire episode of care.

Orientation includes dedicated preceptors, specialty classes & training and a structured curriculum. Then, the employee is hired to a specific unit within the medical/surgical or progressive care modules. New grads are only hired into specialty or critical care units if they are an internal nurse apprentice on that unit.

Program Details:

  • 11-12 week orientation with a dedicated preceptor.
  • Didactic includes transition to practice, self-care, skills fairs, and EKG training.
  • Curriculum includes professional development, leadership and interprofessional communication.
  • Cohort hiring is offered multiple times yearly for local Northern Nevada graduates.
  • Cohort hiring is not mandatory for non-local students.
  • Active Nevada RN license is required upon hire.

Requirements: NV RN license and AHA BLS card Cohorts are hired twice per year. One in the summer and one in the winter.
