Division Chief of Cardiology & Director of Cardiovascular Service Line

 

Position Purpose

As a physician leader within Renown Medical Group (RMG) and University of Nevada Reno (UNR), the Division Chief of Cardiology at URN and Director of the Cardiovascular Service Line will work directly and jointly with the providers in the Heart and Vascular Health. Direct Reports include physicians and/or advanced practice clinicians within the Heart and Vascular service line. The role will need to work effectively within matrix relationships of Renown Health, UNR and with other community physicians and leaders.

 

Nature and Scope

The Chief of Cardiology will provide innovative and dynamic leadership and in conjunction with the dyad administrative partner will be responsible for driving operational performance, provider engagement, recruitment, strategic planning, analysis, and implementation of the infrastructure, processes, and systems to support effective and high-quality clinical care, education, and research within the context of the Affiliation Agreement between Renown Health and UNR Med.

The Division chief will serve as the Director of Cardiovascular Services at Renown Health, which is a multi-disciplinary center focused on excellence in cardiac care. In this role the incumbent will help to develop and oversees sections including General Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Heart Failure, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Cardiac Imaging, and the Women’s Heart Center and hold responsibility for key initiatives in driving performance of these groups and meeting financial objectives for the organization. In addition, the incumbent will be a strategic leader focused on the growth and alignment of Vascular and Cardiothoracic surgery.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct, plan, and coordinate the work of the professional medical staff including physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners including supervision and evaluation, training and team building.
  • Organize and attend departmental meetings and sub-specialty meetings to maintain effective communication.
  • Ensure adequate and qualified staff to carry out program activities, including compliance with all Renown Health and UNR Med policies and regulatory requirements to support growth in clinical and academic programs for both organizations.
  • Responsibility for the selection, hiring, orientation, training, coaching, and discipline of providers in the cardiovascular program.
  • Responsible for the implementation, management, supervision, and evaluation of all activities of the program in accordance with national standards, evidence-based care, and / or regulatory requirements.
  • Develop quality metrics and report on monthly, quarterly, and annual program statistics / outcomes data.
  • Drive provider performance to meet productivity expectations and quality initiatives developed in conjunction with Renown Medical Group, UNR Med, and Renown Health.
  • Participate in and assist in developing adequate compensation models as needed.
  • Oversee clinical / peer chart review to ensure appropriateness of medical care delivered.
  • Assist practice managers in developing policies, clinical program pathways, and clinic procedures.
  • Support initiatives that will improve access, overall health, and reduce disparities in care for our communities and all Nevadans.

Academic Components:

  • Incorporate UNR Med and Renown Health’s vision, mission, values, and strategic plans to achieve success in expanding clinical services, programs, educational, and research activities.
  • Enhance resident and student opportunities for clinical rotations and support both case-based and didactic learning.
  • Proficiency in clinical research and publications.
  • Facilitate the development of clinical research opportunities and clinical trials for students, residents, clinicians, and other participants.
  • Support the operations of the cardiology fellowship program.
  • Address issues in cardiology care, education, and research related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Division Chief of Cardiology will report to the Chief Executive Officer of Renown Medical Group with strong alignment with Renown Health’s service line executive leadership. In addition and for academic advancement, this position will report to the Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine for the incumbent’s joint faculty position with UNR Med

This position does provide direct patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

Name

Description

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Medical Degree from an accredited Medical School required. Advanced degree in business desirable. Master’s of Healthcare Administration or Master’s of Business Administration preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of three to five years leadership experience in acute health care facility and/or an integrated health network. Preference given to those candidates with previous medical leadership experience with an integrated health network.

License(s):

Must possess and maintain a current and valid State of Nevada Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) medicine license. Controlled substance License to Prescribe issued by the State of Nevada and Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA, required.

Certification(s):

Board certified in Cardiovascular Disease through the American Boad of Internal Medicine (ABIM) required. Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Certification Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association required.

Computer / Typing:

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Word and have the ability to use the computer for online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.

Other:

Ability to credential through Renown’s Medical Staff and/or payor credentialing, as applicable.
