Environmental Services Team Leader

Position Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Environmental Services Supervisor, this position is established to implement and provide leadership on weekends and relief coverage for all positions, including the Supervisor.  This position trains all new employees in housekeeping policies and procedures and functions.

 

This position may act as a supervisor to Environmental Services staff during the absence of the Supervisor.

 

Nature and Scope:

The incumbent works independently, receiving minimal directions as to what type of work is to be accomplished.  The incumbent is in a highly interactive position with constant interaction with Housekeeping staff and other Medical Center staff who request services or report problems.  The incumbent performs as acting Supervisor on weekends and during Supervisor's absence.  These acting responsibilities consist of leave and assignment of staff to endure adequate sanitation coverage.  Restocks and receives supplies, trains all new employees on housekeeping functions, policies and procedures.

 

A major challenge for this position is to remain calm when training new employees or responding to emergency situations.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Ø  Infection prevention protocols

Ø  Disinfection & cleaning standards

Ø  Environmental Service equipment handling

Ø  Efficacy knowledge of chemicals

Ø  Waste removal & bio-waste handling practices

Ø  Terminal cleaning of protected environments

Ø  Linen/laundry handling

Ø  Ability to learn basic math and ability to do calculations.

Ø  Ability to learn all equipment and trouble shoot equipment.

Ø  The ability to answer and direct incoming calls to the appropriate staff.

Ø  The ability to interact with Nursing personnel and other departments on a professional level.

Minimum Qualifications:  Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.

Experience:

Minimum of one (1) year Healthcare Environmental Services experience required. Leadership experience in a customer service environment is preferred.

License(s):

None

Certification(s):

Successful completion of Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) certification program required.

Computer / Typing:

Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
