Position Purpose

This position is responsible for the administrative and clinical duties related to the operation of the inpatient pharmacy in accordance with federal and state law, Joint Commission standards, and the facility’s philosophies, goals, and objectives; and for planning, controlling, coordinating, and measuring the work of the department.




Nature and Scope

This position is challenged to provide pharmaceutical care to each of its customers in drug dispensing, quality initiatives, drug information and drug therapy monitoring.


The major challenges to this position are providing the scope of pharmaceutical services in an efficient manner while maintaining a level of quality consistent with the expectations of the medical and nursing staff, patients, and hospital administration. This position exercises judgment and expertise to make decisions, which are both procedurally and professionally correct. The incumbent utilizes time efficiently through proper time management, including assisting others and accomplishing other work-related tasks.


This position requires extensive knowledge and expertise in the area of hospital pharmacy. The incumbent has knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws and regulations governing pharmacy, including current knowledge of DEA regulations governing narcotics and controlled substance. This position ensures legal and regulatory requirements for Pharmacy are met (i.e., OSHA, The Joint Commission, State requirements, State Board of Pharmacy).


The incumbent works with the CFO to meet financial goals of the Pharmacy and to develop new service lines and grow the business. They are expected to participate in the annual budget process, and may be required to prepare financial reports as needed


The incumbent is responsible for ensuring excellent customer service for patients and physicians. This position has daily contact with other department heads, medical and nursing staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes, and promote rational and effective drug therapy in tandem with the clinical coordinator. This position functions as a resource with respect to quality initiatives participation, providing information to improve and enhance services.

This position provides day-to-day management of the inpatient pharmacy. The incumbent will promote team building as demonstrated by contributing to the success of the overall organization, staff development, employee engagement, and empowerment. Incumbent will act as the primary pipeline for information to the pharmacy staff about changes in operational issues. They are expected to take a lead role in enforcing the hospital formulary and assuring Pharmacy protocols and workflow processes are followed.


Incumbent will evaluate staff, manage employee relations, and participate in hiring and on-boarding of new staff.


The incumbent is responsible for pharmacist schedules, and with the help of the technician supervisor, manage the technician schedule ensuring adequate staffing.


The incumbent is responsible for identifying hazardous medications within the department and ensuring the proper storage and handling of these medications. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for working with the Manager of Environmental Services (or designee) to ensure that hazardous medications are disposed of in accordance with existing policies and laws.


The incumbent will update and enforce staff competencies for pharmacists.

The incumbent is expected to manage the agendas and attend and/or lead on a regular basis staff meeting, pharmacist meetings, etc.

The incumbent may be required to perform other duties as assigned.


This position does provide patient care.

Name Description  


Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy. Completion of an ASHP accredited residency is preferred.



Must have at least five years of hospital pharmacy experience with at least one year having manager or supervisory responsibility.



Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Pharmacist license is required.



Board of Pharmacy Specialties certification is preferred.


Computer / Typing:

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Type 25 WPM
